Physical Education

PHYSICAL EDUCATION   9-10

Grades 9-10                               1 Semester – .5 Credit

No Prerequisite

Emphasis is on an instructional program of structured fitness related individual and team-centered activities.  Students will also spend time in the classroom, where health fitness concepts will be discussed at length, including how these concepts should be applied to build a healthy lifestyle.  Students must pass a health fitness competency written test.  Fitness testing will be conducted each semester.

Fitness: This program is an introductory course designed to teach students the proper techniques in muscular strength and endurance, as well as aerobic conditioning.  Weight training alternated with cardiovascular conditioning is the primary focus of this course.  Students will be taught the proper principles of training and how these principles relate to conditioning.  Students are encouraged to develop their own lifetime fitness goals.  Fitness testing will be conducted each semester,

PERSONAL FITNESS              

Grades 11 12                  1 Semester – .5 Credit

No Prerequisite

Health and Fitness courses combine the topics of Health Education and Cardiovascular Fitness.  This is an active fitness class with the intention of conveying the importance of life-long wellness habits.  Workout plans are written and executed.  Activity labs are also part of the class.

TEAM ACTIVITIES & FITNESS

Grades 11-12                               1 Semester – .5 Credit

This class is designed to improve one’s physical conditioning and gain a greater knowledge of team activities and fitness.  Activities will include indoor and outdoor activities and fitness workouts to improve overall wellness.  Assessments will include active participation, written, physical and skill testing.

INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES & FITNESS

This program is designed to provide students with special needs a physical education class where they feel comfortable participating.  Activities are designed to fit the needs and ability of each student.  Improving coordination and strength will be emphasized through indoor and outdoor activities.
